About The UPRR tracks through the South Boulder Park heading to the famous Moffat Tunnel.
Aperture Priority
Shutter speed 1/640
Focal length 22mm
Photo adjusted in RAW to darken it a smidge and to change the WB to Daylight from Auto to warm it up. Then it was modified in PS to saturate the blue reflecting on the rails. Unsharp mask used during resize.
Please critique. I've been out of photography for a couple of years and need to refresh.

Very nicely done on this one Sue!

A good view under the chosen perspective, Sue! The ebdless DoF seems to enhance the "journey" westward by allowing the leading lines to be still fully clear as they seem to be getting lost in the distance. The pattern of stones that gets smaller and smaller toward the depth supports this impression too.

The contrast of the railway against the green and the blue does much work for bringing also some of that look of being "lost" somewhere out there. The intensiv blue of the sky is also good to see as it starts exhibiting some kind of glow near the lines of the horizon - a very realistic impression.

I wouldn't change anything on this one!

Hi Nick, Just now I double-checked the exif data on this shot, and I am very surprised to confirm the f4.5 aperture. Many of the other frames in the series are f22 which is how I remember shooting it, giving hyperfocus a try. I'm not quite certain why this is so crisp to infinity. Now I'm pretty puzzled. Pleased, but puzzled.

Now, this I call strange! Ff/4.5????? Well, indeed a very good surprise but also unimaginable! For such a DoF I have to use hyperfocus too, but it seems that there are also other ways to get that at f/4.5!? This is very very interesting! How big was the original? Could it be that downscaling it reduced the softness of the background to such a degree??? Puzzling indeed!

Thanks a lot for telling me, Sue!

I had chosen this one for both the composition and its clarity. RAW image doesn't seem any more or any less soft, but I suppose it could be from the USM. Don't know.

thanks again for looking.

Thanks again for the info, Sue! Very interesting indeed!

But what does USM stand for?

Cheers!

It's marvellous capture.

Have a nice day.

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:126737} 8/21/2008
Oh thanks, now I understand! Seems that it worked so well because of the much smaller size and type of details in the background.

Cheers!

Nick
