this world is a sh*it dear Saad; excellent picture with beautiful light and pose, just tell me, with two hours of power per day, where do you get through the net?
jd

Anyla Syla   {K:1748} 11/20/2008
wonderful dear saad

Saad Salem   {K:62864} 11/20/2008
thank you JD for your high feelings,
dear what you see from us is just one from thousands,we can not say it all,
as for me to get to the net,I have adapted an APC UPS,changed its battery with 150AMP one, and added an extra charger, and this becomes so popular in Iraq.
apart from that, there some people who sells power, imagine that,at each living quarter, there some guy who brings, say one or two kilovolt generator, and distribute power to the house for a high fee,it is called a private sector power by me,and I will post one shot about it for the members to see something unimaginable, for me I have 8AMP.subscription.
thank you for your attention, and asking,
Saad.

Interesting story Saad, your reply to JD about electricity. Your photo shows well the impact on daily life. I can remember stories about WWII herein holland where also power was unreliable and disturbing life. Hope it will be restored soon !

Be well, Harry

Wolf Zorrito   {K:41858} 11/20/2008
PS,

They used a " knijpcat " to generate light as from a torch, look at

Saad Salem   {K:62864} 11/20/2008
thank you Harry,I have posted the bright side of this story, just look at it,
my best regards,
Saad.

Saad Salem   {K:62864} 11/20/2008
we have got it Harry,it is all the worlds inventions of producing power that is brought to Iraq, during the last eighteen years, the age of this very nice problem (as some non Iraqis call it)of power shortage,
all the best,
Saad.

Michele Carlsen   {K:143690} 11/20/2008
Excellent image - wonderful lighting for the photo but I am sorry for the situation -

Your kids seem to be very determined to be educated and this is a wonderful sight to see- Thank You for sharing a piece of your life with us-- it should make each of us all feel greatful for the power and many things we do have - I know it does me ....

Warm regards,
Michele~

yes I know dear brother,I am afraid the turn will come to someone else,
have a good night my friend,
Saad.

chris d   {K:3046} 11/20/2008
In my opinion, the picture on its own is good, technically well done, but quite frankly, nothing special.
What makes it special, is the about, the understanding of the hardships, and the ability of the photographic community to put prejudice aside and empathise.
It shows how the innocent are affected, and for achieving that, I congratulate you.
Coming from a community that has survived for years exactly on that prejudice, I thank you for touching my heart.

Alessandro Berselli   {K:2279} 11/20/2008
Dear Saad, your picture is realy a strong report. Looking at compositiom and tone I think the shot would be more "drammatic" if you convert it into Black and White. 7/7 regards Alessandro.

Jim Loy   {K:27769} 11/21/2008
Wow!!! Now I find out you have children! I like you even more! It must be difficult having such short time with power. But this reminds me of the story of Abraham Lincoln, the greatest president ever of the United States. He would do his homework by the light of a fire in the fireplace. This is a modern version of that... and your children may be as great as Abraham Lincoln. What subject is she studying?

Luca Peccerillo   {K:15873} 11/21/2008
Great work my friend
very nice moment here!
Be well

Jim Loy   {K:27769} 11/21/2008
Now, to comment on this as a photo. The light at the top is distracting. Crop this lower on the top and leave only the light she is using to do the homework. By doing that, it is a much more powerful image. A single light. I have this rule... balance. When you look at an image it should hold balance. Each corner should balance the other corner. This image is just slightly out of balance because the top light distract from the subject.

Jimmie

Saad Salem   {K:62864} 11/21/2008
sir ,I have done my C.A.B.S. on the light of a kerosene candle,I can not afford the rechargeable at that time,
just an extra information, all the graduates of Iraq, for the last eighteen years have done the same thing,of course there is very few and rare exceptions.
my best regards,
Saad.

Saad Salem   {K:62864} 11/21/2008
thank you so much Alessandro,my best wishes, and regards,
Saad.

thank you Huda, for bringing the stick,an unnecessary effort by your Mame,at this site nobody knows my title, and you have uncovered that,it is yours input that I first received, and decided to remove the shot from the site just to remove the input, but it was one of the best shots I have ever took,so decided not.
don't worry ,no harm has been done, and one day or an other my ID will be known,it is not much of a secret,so I am ready to go fuhrer,I am going to upload a personal photo to the site,
thank you again for the effort, and my sincere greeting to the fine family of yours,
Saad.

Silvia Festa   {K:5733} 11/25/2008
great atmosphere

thanks for your visit

Paolo Barthelemy   {K:25552} 11/28/2008
Superbe lighting, lovely all day moment, very natural and well done, Saad! The up-right lamp balances very well the composition.
Regards, Paolo

Saad Salem   {K:62864} 11/28/2008
thank you so much Paolo, some critiques for this shot suggest to remove the up-right lamp to improve the balance of the shot,my best regards,
Saad.

Paolo Barthelemy   {K:25552} 11/28/2008
Saad, I don't agree (IMHO, of course). It has a lower "weight" (from the lighting point of view) so it doesn't dominate the shot. On the contrary it balances it because without it, the right part would have been too dark, too "heavy".
A square cut with just the main light and the woman may be attempt to remove it.
Have a nice day, Paolo

Saad Salem   {K:62864} 11/28/2008
I have to thank you for that Paolo,
Saad.

Paolo Barthelemy   {K:25552} 11/28/2008
You're very welcome, Saad! :)
Cheers, Paolo
