Agree, frame is to strong, make it less prominent.
No , not to complex, simplyfying would nake it boring. Just crop the top to the point where the upper stair touches the dark wall at the left. Then it is perfect.

I wish I could help you with the meaning of it, but does it really matter? I looked and I liked it. At least I see something I would do different and that does not happen often fortunately. I would crop the top white.
