If I went to Tanzania and only came back with this photo then I would be really happy.

Really good as is...but a letterbox crop of the bottom half (just above the closer of the distant hills) would work good too.

All the best to you Avi.

Paul

a hard postwork here, not very usual coming from you :)
like the white vignneting and tone; like the excellent composition and perspective as always; not crazy with the dull sky so I' crop it out as Paul suggested and nitpicking is a bit tilted to the left (although perhaps it was the direction of the horizon)
nonethelss a very fine pciture and glad you recovered your files
NB: I'be been missing for two weeks due to my winter vacations in Mexico...I'll ckeck the web though....be goo

Like an old postcard from the 1930s, due to the PS work, I like the fading toward the edges and the tree comes out nice and dark. It's really good Avi
Regards, Gary

bhalo shot. kintu 2 pasher oi effect ta dorkar chilo ki? normal technically good wildlife shot hisane present korte asubidha kothay?

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:126737} 1/31/2009
Oh well, the giraffe was alone perhaps, but as long as Avi shoots good photography will never be alone!

It is that special kind of "aged/documentary" that I see here, Avi! Much of that kind of image that the pioneering explorers took from the heart of Afrika. The schematic representation of the whole scenery stands in good contrast to the rich details of the giraffe's skin patterns and the dark patterns of that tree. In some ways they both look like those 3-D postcards with folded figures that come up when you one the card.

The choise for B&W matches both the "antique" and the 3-D look very well. I would expect to see such an image in the books about the life of somebody of the first people that participated in expeditions in Africa.

Very well done!

Nick

Avi     {K:67704} 1/31/2009
Thanks Nick. Interestingly, you are the second person who mentioned the 3D feel.. someone in my office also pointed out the same.. I did not see it till then, but now I agree.
Cheers !
Avi

indeed, I am hugely influenced :):)
thanks again !

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:126737} 2/1/2009
I think that what Andre told me some time ago apllies here too, Avi. It is that kind of subsequent "hiding" of different levels of depth behind the mist according to distance. An additional enhancement for perception of "how far" things are.

Cheers!

Nick

Gary Auerbach   {K:3760} 2/1/2009

Traditional and beautiful image, well executed

pooria  asa   {K:1477} 2/15/2009
Very good composition,
The giraffe and tree are darker than the environment,
They are both alone but can not have a relationship with each other,
it's always a problem for humankind...

diptanshu roy   {K:1059} 2/19/2009
