It would be interesting to compare this with an image taken at night, with the same equipment, etc.

I tried also a night exposure. I found at night the contrast range of the moon is to large for my D50 body. So I choose and exposue in twilight.

You probably just need to set the exposure manually. You can start by using the sunny 16 rule (moon is in daylight) as a starting point. I substitute f/11 for f/16 for the starting point, but either should get you started.
