About This was my first trip up to this location. (Iao Needle, Maui). In fact, because it was so late in the day I almost did not go at all, I really wanted a blue sky shot. Anyway, as I was fiddleing around with my camera trying to see how this place would frame up for the next day, the sun simply exploded onto the scene, lighting everything up and everybody that saw it as well. I used a Cokin Tobacco 1 filter on the clouds and took the fastest roll of film in my life. Just like that, it was gone. It was indeed a Burst of sunshine! This is what we photographers live for.

What a stroke of luck, only matched by your brilliance in taking quick and wonderful advantage of the situation. Your use of the filter surely saved the clouds/sky from being blown out, yet allow those rays to to bathe the greenery in a mist-like way. We are indeed lucky to have you keeping your eye out for these magical Hawaiian scenic wonders, and presenting them to us with such fine technique and evidence of the great love you have of your subject... Another fine job, island braddah!

Vince, this is a really marvelous image, indicative of your distinct style. This light is truly magical. I'm glad you kept an open mind about the potential and were prepared to follow through.

Thanks once again for all of your comments and to Al for selecting this as EC. This image is one of my personal favorites. I remember hoping that just one turned out when I got the slides back from the lab. When I saw this, I literally jumped up and down and did a nice yeeha. Only two originals, out of the two very fast shot rolls had the proper exposure and colors. It only takes ONE. Aloha and thanks again.

Et tu, Vincent? Thanks for the good fight at the old place. So you scout your locations too? Great excuse to get out and about at odd hours, isn't it? Anyway, "Burst" is one of my favorites, too. The jungle foreground, volcanic core and tobacco sky are almost as pleasant as a Merlot buzz. Best-Jim
