About Taken Sept. 9/09
Madawaska River, Ontario.
An immature Loon, one of a pair feeding with both parents. My kayak doesn't seem to bother them, as long as I don't make any sudden movements. They even seem to enjoy the company. But that's probably just my imagination.

Nikon 1.4 AFS tc with Nikon 300mm F4 AFS, used with a shortened monopod and tilt head.

Thanks Dave,
I thought I would put up two Loon pics like bookends in my portfolio. But, they don't really match.

Thanks very much Ray. I'm glad you like my nature images....However you will find a very different sort of "bird" in today's post. :)

In some ways better than the other one, but of course without reaching that level of fidelity, Andre. here I find the blue hue around the bird very convincing, and especially the fact that your DoF also included some small wavelets that make the image so real. The bird looks a bit overexposed on the highlights, but this also brings a good contrast against the water, I think. Another one for a good book about nature over there in Canada.

Cheers!

Thanks again Nick.
There were some things I liked about this one because of the nice detail, However, I'm not too crazy about the composition. The bird seems a bit too closed in in the image. But, I was very close to it with that lens. So, I shouldn't complain.

Well, for me in this case it is exactly that "too closed" that makes the image, Andre. For some reason it seems very "alive" to me, in the sense of "straight" and "direct". I think that the tilt enhances that too.

Cheers!

Nick
