About Not quite in the top ten yet...#13.
But definitely in the top ten when it comes to fitness. The perfectly formed Aussie Samantha Stosur.

Great action shots in this wonderful triptych my dear Andre. Great mono tones and details. You have certainly busied yourself at these tournaments, a most enjoyable series, well done to you. My best wishes, always......Ray

Dave Stacey   {K:138306} 9/28/2009
Very nicely done, Andre! I like the way they all have a similar form and the b/w tones are very good.
Dave.

Hi Andrzej,
Yes, I thought it was the strongest of the three also. I was just off to the sidelines at court level for the middle image. With 300mm I was able to get quite a few good upper torso shots in full frame too. This girl has one of the most beautifully toned, athletic bodies on the Women's pro tour.

Hi Ray, I took these about six or seven weeks ago, just before the US Open. I only just got around to trying some things with them. I like the idea of putting multiple images together. It seems to generate a little more interest for most of the people here. If it was a site devoted to tennis, I might have posted individual images.

Thanks Dave,
This girl is extremely photogenic, with a lovely toned athletic body. She is very graceful and like Sharapova, it's hard to get a bad image of her.

Thanks Nanda!

Thanks Allen,
They are okay in colour too, but sometimes the multiple colours clash a little and can look very "busy" in this kind of image. So, I thought I would play it safe and go with B&W

What a study! The tension of the muscles in harmonious motion seems to be so well frozen in time as if they were marbled in stone on a great sculture, Andre! I am definitely not in agreement with the combination of images on this triptych-like image, but surely each one of them is at least gracious. The gradients on some regions... you remind me of the very definition of a sculpture for the ancient Greeks here, and so I am unable to consider this in a detached, neutral way. I rather see a small hymne to the very concept of harmony in tension, much like on such an ancient scultpture in my homeland.

Just look for example the clarity and definiteness of her look to the ball that she just threw high on the left. And at the excellently captured relief of her armpits. It is harmoniously controlled power which was captured here. and thus, as those gradients paint the plasticity on an image, it is also such a great controll of exposure too!

The timing is another thing to admire here. Just when the tension is at its maximum. Was that more the experience about exactly when it reaches its maximum, or was that more a "scanning of time" by letting a burst of exposures take place automatically?

Anyway, the individual images could make it onto the front page of sports magazines without a single problem!

Thanks for the great comment Nick.
This girl is just one of the most photogenic tennis stars I have ever seen. You are absolutely right when you compare her to those ancient Greek sculptures. Her skin seems flawless. She photographs extremely well.

To answer the question about the pose. When you take images of tennis players for a while, you soon learn where to point and when to snap. :)
The serve is a particularly good time due to the slight lull after the ball is thrown in the air. You have maybe a half a second to get that pose. But it is not too difficult. And yes, I usually set my camera for 4 frames/second. and take the best images to work on. Setting the camera on multiple FPS gives you some great action images as well on the follow through of the serve.

Hi Andre!

Well, in such a case only such images like this are good for conveying the perfection and flawlessness that you mention. It is the best "respect" that one can show to the photographed subject - be it a human beung or anything else.

Thank you very very much for the info on the way to take such images. I think that I would like very much to try it out. Not necessarily at a tennis match perhaps, but anything that could convey perfection in the sense of controlling of the own motion. It will be hard for me since I don't go to such matches very often but I hope to find something similar some other way too.

Cheers!

Nick

Hi Nick,
For some great images of the kind you are talking about, check out the portfolio here by Wojtek Kwiatkowski. His images of muscular horses frozen in action are of the finest quality. I'm sure you will be impressed by his work, if you haven't already seen some of it.
Andre

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:127014} 11/6/2009
Thanks a lot for the hint, Ande! I am surely going to check out Wojteks portfolio. Could you only perhaos remind me how I search for him? To my shame I must admit that I can't find anymore where that search option was...

Andre Denis   {K:61663} 11/6/2009
Hi Nick,
When you open up the "recent images" page. In the lower left area, there is a field that says "find member"
Andre

Nick Karagiaouroglou   {K:127014} 11/7/2009
Thanks a lot, Andre!

Now I remember again how to search for members by name. Well, Wojtek does such an unbelievably strong job with his horses. All of them real photographic sculptures... I saw the image that was awarded as the staff's choise so many times on the frontpage of UF, but now I took a closer look. It is indeed of best quality!

Thanks a lot for telling me, Andre!

Nick

Yeah Nick,
I'm sure he is a Pro., And I mean that in the most positive sense.

I think too, Andre! He seems to post just a few but very good ones.

Nick
