Chhath (Hindi: छठ, also called Dala Chhath) is an ancient Hindu festival dedicated to Surya, the chief solar deity, unique to Bihar, Jharkhand and the Terai[1]. In modern times, this festival is celebrated in all regions and major urban centers in India. This is more prevalent in areas where migrants from the Bihar/Jharkhand/Purvanchal/Terai region have a presence. The festival in celebrated in the regions including but not exclusive to the northeast region of India, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Mumbai.[2] Hymns worshiping the sun can be found in the Vedas, the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism. Practiced in different parts of India, the worship of the sun has been described in the Rigveda.
