About I am a novice in photography and photoshop. This is the first photograph I've ever felt suitably proud of. Photoshop has helped me to turn a 'snapshot with potential' into what I consider a reasonable picture. I would appreciate any criticism to help my hobby progress further please. This is Hallamölla, an old mill on the river Verkeå. This is, apparently, the highest set of falls in the southern region, Skåne. We came across this place completely by accident, lucky I had the camera!

Very beautifull!!!

This is a lot more than reasonable, it is a striking photo! Composition is perfect IMO. My only nit would be that the sky is close to being overblown but that isn't really a problem here since the sky isn't the important part. Had you exposed less the other parts of the photo would have suffered, so no doubt this is the best possible exposure.
I'm curious about this place. Exactly where is this? I am looking for great places in Skåne to Photograph (in fact I just bought a beautiful photobook called "Skåne - känsla och horisont" by Håkan Sandbring and Martin Borg).
Thanks for your crit of my photo. The lower part of the photo was exposed more than the upper part. I then blended the best parts of the two photos together in Photoshop, as you suspected. I think it is a better method than having a ND grad filter because you have more freedom this way when postprocessing. A tripod is needed for this approach. See you around!

Thankyou so much for your comments, it means a lot.

In answer to your question, Jacob, it is on the river Verkeå which terminates at Haväng on the east coast. This particular site is further inland very close to a place called Fiskabäck. Follow the river westward on a good road-map and you'll see the 'place of interest' symbol there. Also, I believe one of the 'Skåne Leden' trails runs right through there. I think early morning would be wonderful there with a good sunrise. Also,if you go in the middle of the day as I did, the light isn't great and it's very difficult to get a shot without including a few sight-seers!

I'm not Swedish, I'm British but have been living here for almost a year. As such, I really don't know of many 'photogenic' places around here. If you know of any great spots for similar pictures or land/seascapes please do let me know. I'm very interested to take a look at this book too, thanks for the tip. BTW; Haväng and its surrounding area is very nice also.

Thanks again.

Hello David, this site is so big now that more often then not, one(I) miss many.....
This image is a very 'rich & complete' composition. All the pieces are in their right places and the angle you took is perfect.
I have 2 'questions' for you to consider -
1) Would it benefit from being overall slightly ligher(contrast)?
2)Would be nice in B&W also, imo.

Thank you very much for your advice on my shot of the 'glens'. I will look into your source for sure.

You've done an excellent job of composing this shot Daniel. You have captured something of interest in each "third" of the photo and the detail and color are excellent. Very nice work.

I can say just one! Amazing!! very beautiful!

Harlan Heald   {K:13990} 7/16/2003
Nicely composed and captured. I like the way you used the trees to frame the building.

Richard Thornton   {K:26442} 8/6/2003
A classic "picture postcard", with fantastic color and an unusual square format. The highlights are borderline blown out so perhaps the image would stand decreasing the brightness just a bit. Overall, very well done.

Jim Fuglestad   {K:1564} 8/7/2003
Hi Daniel,

You are a natural in site and processing. This square crop works wonderfully! Something about the sky behind the trees that looks a little "worked", but the rest of the photo is extremely rich and deep. Excellently composed.

Say... with your appreciation of Photoshop and the digital aspects of photo developing, do you consider going to digital capture?

Jim

Hi Daniel
Thank you for your kind comments on my picture.

This one is pure beauty. Sweden has many hidden secrets to those who can see.
Wherever you are going, keep showing us the beauty of other places and countries
I will continue my hunt for beauty, and learning, learning. learning, to deserve all the kind comments the friends at Useflm leave on my pictures.

Take care
