In my opinion, this picture needs something to stand out as a center of interest. The stairs are a little too large and bland for this purpose. My first thought was that a human figure on the stair would help, but maybe not. A different angle might do something - looking up the stair with a wideangle lens exaggerating the perspective convergence might be more interesting. Or zooming in on some detail.
The background seems a little busy also.
