I think this photo is really a disgust of picture, because' so much grainy,a unreal color and a subject too simple, I hope that her not places anymore' photo so' ugly because' and' a dishonor to have on the site mediocre people as you, I beg changes place.
Sorry for my bad english.
Regard,Paolo.

Hi Jeff

As an experiment, I don't think this is as good as it could have been. The primary colors do not compliment each other, leaving the water looking washed out. But, that is what experimentation is about. Finding what works. Here's something you might try if you're interested.

Desaturate the picture turning it into black and white (Menu: Image>adjust>desaturate) then make a new layer, set the layer to overlay or soft light, then hand paint the picture. It gives you a lot more options than just applying a gradient.

Paolo, this site is about making mistakes and learning. Hopefully it always will be. What would be the sense if every picture was perfect?

jeff lynch   {K:4770} 7/17/2003
Hey there Paolo! Thanks for the lengthy comment man! You have truly outdone yourself with the sheer volume of words. I feel quite fortunate that you spent so much time telling me how bad this one was. Like I didn't know it already. Did you even take the time to see what category this was in? My congratulations!

Raymond, thank you very much for the PS tip. That makes alot of sense and I have used that technique on a few restoration photos that I work on occasionally with great success. You are to be commended on a well thought out critique. It is very rare to see tips posted around here lately. Thanks again man.

Hi,baby!

Clearly you guys have something against Jeff, If you have some constructive criticism great, if not do not use this site to belittle people and degrade them. He clearly stated he was trying to try something new and was looking for some input and help. If any of you people don't know the purpose of this site let me remind you. THIS SITE IS HERE FOR PEOPLE TO LEARN! It is not here to come and show everyone how superior you are and belittle the people that in your eyes are not as skilled as you. Let it go, if this keeps up this site will soon become like the other sites that people came here to avoid. Let the egos go and be civil.

jeff lynch   {K:4770} 7/18/2003
heh heh.....you guys crack me up

Has anyone looked at the subject line for this yet?

geez...

Matt Hardy   {K:474} 7/18/2003
hehe I saw that jeff, I am just getting a little irritated with some of the members holier than though attitude.

Sue O'S   {K:12878} 7/23/2003
You all should listen to Marco. He knows a good picture when he sees it...

kathleen fonseca   {K:11992} 8/20/2003
ohmigod, this is really so funny, Jeff, and just the antidote i needed to balance the toxically sweet images i have been seeing lately. Thanks for your response to my forum question..i was really ready to go into insulin shock till you responded and calmed me down. And what is really funnier even than your satirical photo (really awful, by the way--haha :)) are the responses..aside from the cool one by Raymond Bliss who taught me something new and wonderful! Thanks for improving my day, Jeff! best regards: kat~

Kirk Teetzel   {K:427} 8/20/2003
Congrats! You can now sell your Photoshop technique as "Old Ektachrome Effect". ;)

Ron Browne   {K:1282} 8/20/2003
Just to let you know how much I really, really enjoyed this!

jeff lynch   {K:4770} 8/20/2003
Thanks Ron! I think....

Betsy Hern   {K:12872} 8/20/2003
Oh wise man, I can't believe that so many just don't get it. This is as bad as they come but perfectly illustrates the whole PS thing. I think you've found a new friend in Kat, you've calmed her down and given her a laugh. I am personally giving this all 7's just because you had the balls to post it, then take the abuse from those who think it is what it isn't.

"Our job consists of observing reality with the help of our camera, of fixing reality in a moment, but not manipulating it, neither during the shoot nor in the darkroom later on. These types of manipulation are always noticed by anyone with a good eye."
-Henri Cartier-Bresson, Amercan Photo

Bjorn Beheydt   {K:12096} 8/25/2003
Hey Jeff, I came to this pic after reading your response to Kat's post... I must say that this is a killer!! One of the best pics in its category :-)))
And even better then the pic itself are the comments of some people...

jeff lynch   {K:4770} 8/25/2003
Bjorn...heh heh...glad you liked it! I have webspace of my own so I usually clean up my collection here on a semi regular basis, but this one will stay forever here!

You hit the nail on the head man...the comments make this one a keeper. You just have to wonder sometimes. And I thought I had it all with this one! Water, a bird, landscape, and orange! ;)

Todd Broadbent   {K:2204} 8/28/2003
Truly magnificent! Bravo! Why isn't this photo of the day? hahahahahaha. Humor is a wonderful thing. Taking things so seriously only steals the joy of what we love to do. Keep having fun!!! Regards --Todd

Ronny Van Eeckhoutte   {K:12734} 9/3/2003
All sevens.no comment.I have a lot of fun.

ken krishnan   {K:19102} 9/17/2003
I had a great time reading the comments. That along with the image - This one must be selected the photo of the 'usefilm', if there is any award like that.

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 9/26/2003
All you need to do is to fix the horizon and you have a smashing picture :-)
