Someone looks like she is not happy...I like the lighting and the bit of blur too!

Gregory Fiedler   {K:15439} 7/17/2003
Yep, you caught a attitude there! Just the beginning! That acoustic will turn into a raging Les Paul! Make up gets thicker. A cross between Joan Jett and Marilyn Mason! or Another John Denver. YIKES! How do ya win! OK I'll shut up! Great potrait, CD cover?

Stefan Rohner   {K:4200} 7/17/2003
cool!

Hey Jim....did you force her to play the guitar?
;-)

Great capture....good crop...love the softness.

Jim,

Yes there is a whole lot of bad attitude here!! I love the comp with her way to the left and most of the guitar out of the frame. I would consider cloning out a few of the light spots behind her head on both sides - I like the scene swallowed in darkness with just her and her guitar visible - like some sort of salvation...

Hi Mary:

Say, what's the gamma of your monitor? I used the Apple Studio Monitor set at 2.2 to edit this and there are only the vaguest visible hints of white spots. Then I looked at with my iBook (default of 1.4) and I can actually see the CD cases back there.

I've been using the 2.2 gamma because that's the IBM default and I assume most people will be viewing at that density -- just curious how your monitor is set and if it falls somewhere between 2.2 and 1.4?

Thanks, Jim

I have no clue - how would I find out?

Gotta love that look Jim! Funny but endearing. :) They don't last, smiles return. Very cute image.

My monitor shows very vague bluish spots behind her head either side, not white on mine.

Geez, looked like my daughter there for a minute. Whew! Good luck with the attitude! Wonderful shot, by the by, you seem to have a signature toning to your shots. Professional? Cheers!

Lovely childhish portrait, I think she is a bit fed up, I see the cds as pale blue, I think if you have an Aperture grille CRT monitor there is never any problems. Great stuff Jim - Richard.

the girl is lovely and this bit of blur bleurishes the photo what is very interesting!!

Hi Mary:

Generally, you'll find the gamma calibration as an option on your monitor control panel. The only time you'd really need to adjust gamma is if you are not getting the sames hues, tones and especially contrast from your printer that you see on your monitor.

Since monitor gammas can cover a pretty wide spectrum, it's anybody's guess what the best gamma setting is for uploaded files. My own guess is in the 2.0 - 2.2 range, since that's probably the default setting on most people screens.

Best,
Jim

Hi GC:

Professional, yes. Trademark, no.

The blue experiment is only a little more than a week old -- although I started "the blues" at about the same time I began posting on UF. Mainly, it's an attempt to explore possibilies -- see what works in blue and what doesn't work.

Hey - Jim,

I just looked at the options and didn't find it - maybe I will ask my husband... ;)

Mary

you should explore more this way , the newest photos dont seem to me so interesting as this one !

Hi Ana:

Having spent some time looking through your portfolio, I can see why you like this better than my photo illustrations. I, too, have a fondness for slow-shutter images and their ambiguities of space and meaning. Still, these days, my principal interest is the photo illustration, especially composites.
