Thanks for the explanation Jenni. I don't think there is any other way to reply to people except this way (or else email). Anyway, your explanation means I don't have to keep wondering what I'm missing :-).
The shock comes from the contrasts. The contrasts can go further, perhaps - Maciek makes good point about the lighting, and the lighting too can be used to upset expectations. In this case, I think if you had continued the 'wedding' theme with proper wedding lighting - soft and glamorous, using softboxes and warming filters - it could underline the contrast with what's going on. I don't think moody lighting would be right - the moodiness comes from what she's doing, and there's quite enough shock value in that!
Just some thoughts :-).

sheesh, i can't find any way to get back to you ppl...how to answer your questions etc. :S is it me or a complicated site?
anyway, MEREDITH, i use different types of fake bloods that i buy froma theatre supply store. in this pic i used 3 kinds of.
ANDRE; i'm not trying to say anyting, symbolize anything, lead you to anything. it just is. you pretty much said what is happening there, i have no idea why, the image just occurred to me. i find it funny because there is so much contrast (wedding, beautiful girl vs. blood, suicide, death), and well, i'm into this type of stuff. that's all :) sorry i couldn't open it up more for you, there really is nothing else.

Sorry, my first comment was totally inadequate. What I mean is, this has a lot of imapct, undeliably. But I'm left wondering what your 'message' for me is - becasue, apart frmo a shocking image, I don't get one. Shock wears off, but the message has to linger in the mind, maybe corrode it till the scars drop off and I can see clearly what you want me to see.
So, the intent of this photo: the girl in a wedding gress cuts her wrists and drinks her own blood, apparently with pleasure. I just don't know what to make of it. Maybe I'm too straight-forward. I want to get further into this, but I can't...
Keep your excellent photos coming please, as the fault may well be with me...

Well, I like the originality. More contrast of main and fill light and also dimmer background should make the girl become more misterious.

Well, If she wasn't seeming enjoying herself so much, I would say it is real. Technically it is quite good. Other wise, I am pretty much speechless. For that I must say. Well done.
