This is a very good photo of your friend. I like the closeup tight crop. I am surprised he didn't try and "turn brown" to match the branch. Nice, sharp details.

you could use a touch more light on the eye and a touch less on the rest...the composition is good and you seem to have captured the eye looking right at you...the detail could be brought back if it were slightly underexposed, but when over exposed is much more difficult...IMO your "Friend" would be better suited on a dark background to really make him stand out
