About Good Sunday morning and heartfelt thanks to everyone who commented on "Morning After." There's another photo-composite on the way, but in the meantime, here's something for a deep August weekend. // This file is perhaps the digital equivalent of a William Mortensen print -- it's been altered so many times over so many years, that I doubt there are any original pixels left. Mortensen, one of the most technically talented -- although not necessarily artitistically gifted -- American pictorialists worked his prints with razor blades and abrasives until there was often only a suggestion of the original image left. Anyway, despite over manipulation, I find this scene a calming suggestion of the kind of thing I'd rather be doing on a hot weekend in August. Actually, I'm driving my daughter to camp in the Green Mountains of northern Vermont today, so that's not so bad either. Hope you enjoy... -Jim

A fanatastic image - I very much like the effect. I imagine that the original image was excellent on its own, but the mood now suggests a dreamy hot-summer afternoon- you can practically feel the heat! Congrats on your POTD, and enjoy the drive. Cheers!

Another of your wonderful boat-scenes. I've seen several of your pictures on photo.net. They're good! This one you may have cropped a fraction of a millimeter too tight on the left side. I might also have sharpened it a tiny bit more.

Carsten Arnskov   {K:21} 8/17/2003
Sorry, I mean on the right side!!!

And apart from that, what I find interesting in fact is his pigment process... Some of his tests sheets show this yellow/sepia colours you have here... Great !

Jim, if there is one thing that I adore in your composites it will be the lighting-- it is masterful. Great job.

Craig Garland   {K:27077} 8/17/2003
Jim; I like this very much-- the subject, composition, colors, forms, textures are all excellent. The effect that puts it in the "more surreal" character is the banding of the light/darker gold of the sky-- it's well done, but just don't know if I like it?-- going to have to come back later for a 2nd look. Nice work!
