This is a fun Hockneyesque piece. I like it alot but not a much as others you have done. I don't quite understand head dead and living.

Very original!! I bet this is super impressive hanging from the ceiling! I don't think it lacks punch... there's so much to look at and take in that it hits you that way. I took a look at the "dead" side and think that these work nicely together...

To fully appreciate this work, and it is a work not an image, is to spend at least 20-30 minutes going over it, checking out each of the individual images, anything less would be unfair to the artist and his intent. As I went over each of the images, up, down and across, the artists goal became clear, a human being living life to the fullest, and enjoying every minute of the ride. That is called (living).
The one image that my eye kept going back to is the third one from the top on the right, the sticking out of the tongue, sums up the work. Then again I could have missed the point here, it does happen.
The concept of course is not new but handled very well here. For those viewers who have problems visualizing the image full size, just keep working on it, the skill can be learned with practice, the reward is justified. I would love to see this work in it?s natural setting.
As far being related to the work of Hockney, i don?t think so. Hockney's photographs are cubist by design and execution, no similarly here.
Now I will go around back and see whats there.

william, thank you for your careful and thorough attention to this piece. i haven't a quibble with hardly anything you've written. i'm especially grateful that you notice there's no trace of hockney in this piece. i think that's a natural response by a lot of people who haven't encountered assembled images before: hockney they know, so hockney it is. you are dead on, as it were, in getting my intent for this side of "head." it was a fun hour and a half as i had tara do this, do that, sideways, lie down, dump water on her head, pout, eat, yell at me, sleep...a whole list of things. the light through the windows was perfect and she's a fabulous model. i took only four rolls, but i had more negatives than i needed. some really are pretty cool all by themselves. the assembly was entirely intuitive. i did put a fractured face on the right, in the middle (eye, nose and eye, mouth), and another near the top of the third column (eyes and nose, gaping mouth), but everything else was pure feel. i do like the one with her tongue sticking out, though, and that's as good a message as any for this side. i believe firmly that once work is out there it belongs to whoever claims it, though it's nice to know that intent still counts for something. thanks again for your careful attention. it is a thrill to see meaning being made.

"one filthier" -- the thought had crossed my mind...a few thousand times. i think the piece as a whole would be lopsided, though: bare bones don't have the stopping power of a sexy naked body. you give it a try, elin. you have a way with these things....

Amazing, James. Not only for the positioning of each of the pictures, but for the whole work.
Why is it so appealing? Because it shows what we like, and don't, on people: expressions, emotions. This is an image that communicates because of both its simplicity and complexity, just like everybody.
Let's say the principle is simple (B&W), but the inside is complex (lots of expressions, moods, details that compose an individual's personality).
You were trying to reach an icon. Well, I've picked this one from your work. But don't stop convinced by my opinion. I'd like to pick others.
Ahn, sorry for rating it, but I couldn't resist. by the way it's the highest rate I've ever given. And it really deserves it.
