About Taken from the Whitepass/Yukon scenic train near Skagway, Alaska. August 7, 2003.

Reducing this and my other alaska photos to be 640x640 max, they seem to loose something in the reduction. Isn't it time to allow a bit larger dimensions on files! If we have to compensate a bit with more jpeg, that's ok.

Yeah, it seems a bit dark and murky on my monitor (maybe it's just my monitor..?). After a few adjustments in PS7, the attached version of your image looks a little better for me. Nice shot though..:)

Oops, forgot the image attachment...(!)

The classic lines of Landscape shot in the making, though I do think that the exposure is a little dark. Judging by the shadow the sun was in front of you and would have added to difficulty of capturing this, but you did a great job, I would consider going back to that same spot at an earlier (or later?) time of day to light it up a little more. plus it gives you an excuse to get back to that wonderful view.

Hi Michael--Yes, on my monitor it is dark but borderline acceptible, but as I look on others, it is much too dark. I did play with the levels in my PSe version, but when I cranked them up, the leaves started to look a bit pasty on my monitor.

But you are right, your version is better, and I'll pump it up a bit. BTW - Did you apply a mask when you did it? That was another source of my trouble. I just couldn't get the mask right, especially where the trees touch the sky. I'll have to work on it some more later tonight. Thanks for taking the time to try it.

Mike (Frakes)--Thanks for your comment. I'd love to go back, but it was an expensive trip! I live far from there. Also, I don't exactly know where this was, though I know how to get there: It was shot from a moving train--the Whitepass/Yukon scenic train ride. You are allowed to stand "outside" between cars, and I took a lot of pictures, but you had to compose very quickly! I am going to try and lighten it, per Michael's example, and maybe I will resubmit it. Thanks!

Wonderful,very good composition...

beautiful, beautiful composition with an excellent perspective...do think the others are right about lightening the bottom some...try masking the sky only and then inverting and use the levels slider...quick mask would work quite well for this...

Im sure this one would look even better if it was allowed to post it larger...Still its a splendid shot Neil
