About From the Kilauea volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. The lava is flowing, break outs are continuous and anybody who is interested can walk right up to it. This is a friendly volcano....so to speak. It is like walking up to a very large fireplace...the heat is intense (what can we expect with melted rock) and fumes can be a problem. Fortunately there is a very strong wind down at this location...about 35 mph or even more that keeps the heat tolerable and the fumes at bay. But, makes even tripod shooting tricky. Taken on Sept 20th 2002.

I'm feeling the intense heat by just looking at this! Wicked color tones! I like the angle of the lava in the composition too.

Vincent, do you think that a polarising filter would have helped take the brighter spots off the black? It's got great detail in the black, and so maybe what I'm wondering would ruin the shot, but if a little of the glare was removed I was thinking it would have more contrast between lava and rock. SO, next time a volcano is exploding, you better be up there!! hahahhaha

I was just browsing the forums and came across the Photography 101 topic and noticed that you put a link to my portfolio saying that I've come a long way. Thank you Vince, as it really means a lot to me, and I know I couldn't be where I am today without your help.
