About Story behind this shot: My brother had this VERY BIG wasp in his house in the summer, and after he somehow killed it he saved it for me because I have wasp phobia and he wanted to show. It's the biggest wasp I have ever seen and I just had to photograph it! I asked him for a match, so I could have something in the photo that showed the size, but I found this tiny coffee cup and thought it was funny to make it look really giant! To make this composition I had to TOUCH the wasp (*shivering*) Well, it's good therapy for my phobia! ;-) Anyway, hope you find it interesting! I post the match one here under as well, so you can see actual size!

interesting work.. Kristina.. you should see some of my macro works of my latest skipper butterfly. I get very close to live bugs.. I would like to take a shot of such a wasp live.. say about 1.5 inches away.. look at David Sweetland's works.. he lives for bugs..

Gabriele Pfund   {K:11745} 9/11/2003
Very good capture with great details, and nice idea with the tiny cup...!! This is really a big wasp, probably a hornet; they can reach a size of 3 cm!! Though I feel sorry for her to be killed, I surely would not like them to come close to me either!! As you said, an opportunity to work on your phobia; I have the same with spiders and work on it also; I found they are interesting objects to photograph, and doing so really helps me, slowly, but more and more... So, keep on shooting wasps (but with the camera only!:)...) Regards :)

Great shot !!

Kim Culbert   {K:37013} 9/16/2003
The shadow of the wasp is what makes this one... adds to the fear, as the long shadow makes it seem double the size!
Other than the awkward position, you can't even tell that it's dead! Great macro!

I really like this shot, very creative use of props. (extra points for picking it up!) You are certainly getting your Ixus to perform for you. I've hired a macro lens for the weekend for my photography course and so will try to find some interesting things around the house to take. Now, I know there's a dead spider in the laundry that looks interesting... ;)

Great macro Kriss in perfect focus and horrid yellow and black colour. I really hate wasps
and one this size would be horrific.
Once had to call room service in India to remove a Hornet from our room. We waited on the balcony. :-D
Regards,
Graham.
