Wow, I initially thought this was a painting by Heronimus Borscht (sorry I masacred that, my girlfriend is an Art prof and would kill me, so no one tell). It is very unreal. A lot of the good stuff is in focus, but it seems the depth of field missed his/her legs which is too bad. Then it would really look like one of the aforementioned paintings'. (or am I way off in left field, I am trying to mean a German or Dutch artist that drew weird village scenes and rabbits)

These birds are actually less than 5ft from the fence. The red colors just jump out at you. I was about 4ft away and with my zoom almost completely extended. I did not use a tripod here but instead leaned on the fence. These little guys like to move around a lot so capturing one this close was not easy. I actually shot off about 6 or 8 shots. Most of them blurred in one area of the body or another. This one just jumps out at you. I would have liked to had his legs in focus as well. Thank you all for the comments they are helping me improve my craft. I go back and re-think my shots and how I might do them differently the next time. This site is awesome!

Nice color and use of a plain background to delineate a very beautiful subject.
