Beautiful picture! I like it very much. I hope you don't mind, but I cropped it a bit, to see what a bit closer crop would do to it. Here it is (the big grey cloud dominates so much, that's why I thought maybe a bit closer crop would work). I really hope you don't mind.
Ursula

wel done

Ursula, I don't mind at all. I think that this is one of the purposes of this site, to generate discussion and the ability to illustrate one's point is a nice feature. Feel free to use it. As for your interpretation, it's nice and does change the dynamic of the image somewhat. My intention with the original crop was to lend a grand scale to the landscape. This effect is lessened somewhat in your version which is neither bad or good, just different. It was a bit difficult for me to compose this scene with so many possibilities and even still I don't care for the composition but I felt the strength of the elements and the scale of the subject was sufficient for critique. Thanks for taking part. BTW, the 8x10 print of this is extrememly sharp! This format loses so much in that regard but then, no one else has seen the PRINT so far but this format allows viewing from all parts of the globe. Not a bad trade off.

Ursula, here's the same scene taken several minutes later as the colors were changing at sundown...http://www.usefilm.com/image/206893.html

Fantastic

Ursula I Abresch   {K:6515} 9/27/2003
Yup, I can see what you're saying about the dynamic being changed. My crop makes it a much "tamer" picture. I also think you're right, as a print this picture must look spectacular (the original). The cooler, whiter tones one make it a powerful picture. Interesting.
Ursula

Hi Robert, wonderful capture. I did some thing more to it after cropping. I think this potrays the title better. Hope you like it.

Tomo Radovanovic   {K:12788} 9/27/2003
great landscape shot
regards

Robert Whiteman   {K:2261} 9/27/2003
Ken, hmmmmmmmmmmmm.........sorta takes out the middle ground completely and the forground lost a bit too but the clouds become quite dramatic. Personally I still like the foreground details which give a larger feel to the overall view and wish I had just a bit more detail in the trees above the cliffs. The dynamic range was quite extended in these conditions and without using the filters would have been quite a challenge to get anything useful at either end of the range.

Thanks for your comments and demonstration.

Beautiful sky. It almost overpowers the great scenery of the Canyon. Nice natural colors. Don.
