About Was experimenting with double exposures and this was one of the mistakes (I forgot to turn the dial to multiple exposure) Sure wish I could make mistakes like this more often!
PS to smooth the jpeg artifacting in the sky.

Quite a beautiful 'mistake' Kim! :) Amazing layers of color in the sky, and the various types of street lighting make for a wonderful, glittering jewel of a cityscape - I especially like the blue-green color contrast added by the mercury lighting. The star effect around the lights from using the small aperture works well for the sparkling effect here, too! I think I'd edit out the smudge of greenish light in the lower-left corner - it keeps drawing my eye for some reason... Really nice photo, though!

Thanks for the comment, Dirck... I've taken out the green in the bottom left. I think it cleans up the edges nicely.
I wasn't too sure with the stars on the lights... maybe it was too much? Good to know that you liked it though.
Cheers!
Kim

Yowsa! Where did you take this photo? It looks like the Burnaby Hastings area. It's wonderful - I'm glad you've been taking advantage of the marvelous sunsets we've been having. Me, I'm stuck inside, watching them on TV. :-( Your exposure is dead on (thanks for posting those details - I'm going to remember that setting!) and the composition works well. It probably couldn't have been helped, but I almost wish you could have reached a higher vantage point because the hill in the foreground swallows up the Second Narrows bridge and leaves a corner of mostly negative space. Other than that, it's great - nice to always see new views/angles of Vancouver.

Kim - yep, that does it for me - beautiful! Thanks so much for your comments on my photo, too; I really appreciate getting substantive and thoughtful critiques!!
Take care, Dirck

Becky,
The next night you have off (sometime in Oct, or is it November now???) I'll take you up there... the view is wonderful and there are many different views ... city, water, mountains, Lion's Gate...
I'm not sure if I can get high enough to show more of the Second Narrows, but it's worth a try. I thought that the water weaving between darkness helped to pull the eye to the Lion's Gate, but perhaps it's just too much black. Thanks for your critique!

Hi Kim thanks for the comments also love this pic you posted. Great veiw, the colors are well saturated so good exposure but the sky is abit orange alomst un real for such a long exposure. and dark scene. IMO but really cought my eye though, Where you up on Burnaby Mountain? SFU maybe?
