A beautiful composition. You have drawn the eye through the elements of the photo... from left to right perfectly, a comfortable sweep, only to draw us back down to the focal point via the stairs to grab our attention in the roots. Rendered nicely in B&W.
I would be interested in seeing the full color capture.
This is beautiful work.

Karen, there was cropping and dodging involved to make these roots the focal point, as you can see from the original "as is". My first step was to crop out the foreground because of the blown out highlitghts on the rock surfaces; the rest proceeded as I went into the subject.

I like this very much. The sweep of the tree roots and the path arching up to the right make a very nice composition. The light is lovely.

I like this image Christian. The tree & roots remind me of a giant bird's leg & talons. Coupled with the steps moving up to the right makes for a dramiatic image. Nice in B&W

You've done a great job in leading the viewer's attention onto the roots, and from there, up the stairs. Good choice to crop off the foreground, the resulting composition is a very pleasant one. The range of tones looks good, but have you considered using a brownish tint instead of this green one? The green makes sense with regard to the plants, but brown would perhaps suit the tree better, and the tree is a more important element than the small plants.
So have you touched that stone?

Je trouve cette photo très émouvante et je vais vous dire pourquoi. Elle est la concrétisation de certaines de mes idées (floues) pour une peinture. Je n'ai jamais pu la faire (cette peinture) parce que je n'avais pas de modèle pour me structurer. Et voilà que je vois ça. Vous me volez mes idées! ;-) Je ne vous la plagiarerai pas(si le mot existe! je ne crois pas) en peinture ;-) mais je vous trouve chanceux en bibitte d'avoir pu capter cette belle image! Continuez votre beau travail.
