About This is an example if what can be done with a digital camera. I went to shoot this building at dusk. When the sky was right the building was too dark. I exposed for the sky in the top image and then made an exposure for the building without moving the camera. In Photoshop I opened both and moved the lighter image onto the darker one. I then erased the sky in the top (lighter) image leaving just the darkened sky and the light building.

You can get the same effect with film as well.

This in cool by the way :-)

More a demo of photoshop than a digital camera - the D1x just gets you there quicker. Very well done. I imagine they filled your beautiful sky with copy... "0% Financing! No payments until January 2003!!!"

I suppose that it is possible to get the same results using film, but I don't think it can be done in 15 minutes. If you have an example of this process done in film, I am sure many folks would like to see it.

As for advertising appearing in the sky, so be it... they pay me enough to allow that. :)

It's called an ND Grad filter and it takes 10 secs.
