When it comes to going over some general principles about making photographs, the widely usable rule of thirds surely helps decide where to put the subject... but, there is another 'rule' which is often forgotten: simplicity... taking out what's unnecessary and concentrating on the important... you've got both and this is a very interesting composition indeed...
