About This was the color of the midday sky for half an hour. I thought it was pretty incredible. Kauai has some of the deepest colors that I've ever dealt with. I just got lucky with the colors. Shot near the lighthouse.

The back lighting works well for anything translucent, like the wings here. The intense blue is cool and the timing is great. But the shot seems a tad underexposed to me as the body of the bird is really very dark. Try giving it another stop of light; the highlights are already blown out anyway.

Paul,

Great blues man! Alright if you can get that bird to come back, and get the sky color just right again, here is what I would do. I like the transluecent of the wings but maybe a little fill flash on the underside of the bird ought too do it, but if that seems to hard to bring back together, well I guess this will have to do. Great job anyway!
Later my friend,

Russ

Thanks for the comments guys. The situation was really different. With the circumstances, it wasn't feasible to utilize a flash. The bird was 35 yards or so overhead. My flash isn't going to reach. I don't know, I think that the highlights make the shot. It gives it an outline and a different perspective. I think that's something we're all after. I'll post a straight shot today. I would have liked to have used a polarizer though.

Thanks again, Paul
