Marty,

First, glad to have a face with a name. :) I like your look...almost dangerous, but still seemingly harmless. I like the pensive stare you've got going on here, and there's just enough skin showing through your shirt to set it off from the black background. Good composition, especially for a self portrait.

Now, on to the criticism. Teehee. Just needs some lightening...skins really dark, and the eyes don't seem as bright and vibrant as I imagine they really are. Looks like you used just one light in this...you could do with a second, set above and behind you, to set your dark hair off from the background. It completely disappears. If you used a strobe, you can purchase a really inexpensive slave flash for around $30 to hang from the ceiling for a hair light...that's how I started out. *grin*

But, again, good picture. You're a handsome guy...hope I can get away with saying that. :) Thanks for posting here...you've got a lot of good work in your portfolio. Take care.

Thank you again Larry for the feedback. This was my first attempt at self portraits and damn are they difficult without anyone there to assist.

For this one I wanted a dark kinda moody feel wich is why it's not very light. I tried to use a reflector to seperate me from the background but I was just guessing were to aim it. I need a stand in manequin. hahaha

I just looked at your portfolio and like a lot of you work as well. I love this community, even though it's a bit more conservative than I'd like. ;)

This is the better of the two in my opinion. The other has too feminine a look to it. Larry is right on about the lighting. Hey Larry, he ain't as handsome as his girls are!! This is still a good shot Marty!

Nice to see you Marty.
I have to admit I thought Marty was a female name.
Nice phot. Maybe a bit dark.
I have been watching your pictures. I think you can live
both as a photographer or a model.
Very nice.

Wonderful self portrait cousin! Guess the photography runs in the "genes". Hope you're doing well!
