Sometimes you just gotta take a picture whether the light is good or not. You've got to capture the mood, the moment, and to use a flash would ruin it. That's what you did Kriss and you'll always have this picture to remind you of your little boy's question.

I like both the photo and the story, the photo for the suggestive darkness, the warm lights of candles and the impressive subjects, especially the cross with the year above, the story because it's real, moving and funny too, we must never forget that we need a smile sometimes, so the life can go on (btw your son is a great philosopher ;) ). Kristina,
This is another excellent picture, a great capture representing perfectly the mood of the moment. I am glad you did not use the flash.
Interesting observation about the reflection of the candle, interpreted as the symbol of Playboy (it really represents a bunny = rabbit with long ears.)
And yes, my grandfather was also the kindest person to me as I remember. But my grandmother was equally wonderful.
Your picture evokes all these memories and I thank you for that.
