| About |
There was always one kid on the block who had everything, yet never fully realized the potential of the equipment due to a lack of dues. I was shooting a match between two rival schools for a small community newspaper with my dad. We go there out of love and definetly not for the meager ten dollars a published print. The big boys, with their 7,000-10,000 dollar Nikon 400 silent wave 2.8, show to cover the match. To learn from the best, to see the potential of what we could become,is something I crave. The next morning I anxiously open my newspaper (San Diego Union) and am once again disappointed by the photo. Anyway, before I end up giving up on a career in journalism, tell me if there is any potential. I don't know, maybe I am just a frustrated person. Either way, I am still going to shoot.

Paul,
Are you disappointed in this photo (or the one published by the paper by the boys with the high dollar cameras)? I like this shot! It freezes the motion of the ball, the explosion of the water, and the deciation of the player. Anytime you can have the main colors of the photo (that are so crisp) the primary colors, you have the makings of a great color shot. Keep kicking yourself, but only to make yourself better. You and your dad have some fantastic shots on here, I only hope to see more. Later my friend,
Russ

you shoot what makes you happy. this shot should make you happy. you have no control over what an editor is looking for and what he needs to sell his publication. if you do your best, eventually you will get your rewards. i will venture to say that the photo that was published was shot by someone who had many of his or her photos overlooked at some point, if not currently. you can't scorn yourself because of someone else's taste. this is a good photograph.
