I liked both, this picture as well as the original.. Each in a way.. the original with its classical atmosphere and this one with its dreamy look.. Lovely work..

I prefer this one. But I am greatly influenced by my painting background. ;-). What is the Slide Sandwich technic? I definitely would like to try it!

Suzanne, The technique is to shoot two slides of the same scene using the following formula.. 1st at f/22 focused sharp and overexposed at about plus 2. The 2nd at your widest apature (f2.8 for me) overexposed but a stop or so and DEFOCUSED a bit. I encourage you to experiment with the overexposure and defocusing... Then take the two slides out of the mounts and sandwich them together in one mount.

I like this one better as it creates an effect that is out of ordinary. Thank you very much for describing the techique used. I wonder if I can do the same with negatives.

I definately like this version better John. The other version almost looks bland compared to this one. I like the way 'photos' from the slide sandwich technique look if done right. I also like the way the colours looks so saturated. I'm curious John - ya think this would work at all digitally? hmm...

Derek, I know some people using digital are taking the two images and then overlaying them in PS. I'm not real familiar with the technique but I believe you woould not have to overexpose so much as you would be able to make the bottom out of foucs layer more transparent right? Play with it and have some fun!

Beautiful, dream-like, John - I vote for this one! The fist one is a very good straightforward shot, but the way you visualized and then executed this one is amazing!

I'm all over this one, John. The process really makes the colours pop, the depth stand out and the whole scene radiate a sense of fall. It has a very painterly feel to it as well as coziness. Love your explorations!

I like only the original. I cannot see the point of this technique. I would even go so far as to say it seems to me to spoil a perfectly good photograph. This version looks like a photograph taken out of the window of a moving car with a shutter speed a little on the slow side--showing the vibration. I'm trying to respect your request for reactions by saying it as straight as I can! I do like the original photograph. I feel exactly the same about the other pair, of which one has been treated in this way. I console myself with the thought it would be a dreary world if we all liked exactly the same thing and I respect those who find this version more attractive: there's probably something lacking in me that means I can't respond positively to it...
