About After a one-year absence, I was able to find my way back to Minter Gardens. I always manage to have decent luck taking photos there. Is this an okay shot? A little on the dull side? Does the green blur in the corner add or detract? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Possible solution to potential green blur dilemma: I find it's not so distracting in b&w. Or I could be crazy. (Does that mean I don't have to go to work today? . . .)

Very nice Becky! Love the colors. The lighiting is just right.

Antonio Trincone   {K:23167} 11/22/2003
the green spot adds some interest but the lack of focus on the left upper part detracts a lot as well as some shadows on the right of the flower

I think your lighting is fine. Well done.

Emgy Massidda   {K:60226} 11/22/2003
The colours are beautiful and I don't mind at all the green blur. As a matter of fact, it adds to the image. The lighting is also ok but agree with Antonio. The left upper petals are slightly out of focus and the shadows on the right side are too dark.
Nevertheless, I think this is a beautiful floral closeup and quite a nice shot, Becky
Well done!

I think you definitely is overthinking this one, I think it is a very nice shot :-) I don't find the softness in the upper left corner distracting, but it may not be ideal given that there is where the light is. The only problem with the blurred green is that there isn't more of it IMHO.

Dirck DuFlon   {K:35779} 11/23/2003
Well, I'd say you'd be hard pressed to say this is on the 'dull' side - certainly not with such vibrant colors! :) I think Stefan is right on: you're overthinking this one. I don't mind the petals along the edges being a little soft, in fact it adds to the romantic mood appropriate for a flower macro - as long as the center is in focus. Also the green blur doesn't bother me at all. I think it gives it some depth and sort of 'locates' the flower in a natural setting. If it *does* bother you, though, why not just edit it out? I really like this photo a lot!

Thanks to everyone who took the time to make a critique. It's nice to have objective viewers as I've looked at this photo too many times to see it as it really is!

Soft focus on the green, yes, I like that. The flower is lovely, but I think needs to be sharper at top left, although the soft focus at the bottom is not a problem. - Mister Ken
