Hi Debbie. This is a really cool idea - makes me hear the traffic noises from down there and want to read the text on the plaque. I believe what works for me here is the multiple play of contrasts between reality and plaque: day/night, nearby/far away, foreground/background etc. However, the scan looks a bit soft.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to comment on my photo. Yes, it is soft. As in the beginning when I joined Usefilm I had the hardest time getting flowers in focus. Well I think I've accomplished that a bit more successfully since joining this website thanks to all the help and advice from my friends at Usefilm. I have been trying to work on the Landscape project for months now. Haven't figured it out completely yet. I have been using a polarizer and DOF preview button most of the time. I'm beginning to think I need to use a different aperture...? Maybe f/8 and f/11? All advice is very welcomed:)

Debbie, I also have the EOS 30 camera, and like to take landscape pictures. I don't think the aperture you have used for this is the problem. I often use f.16 or f.19 and find good DOF and sharpness. Where do you focus when you take the picture. Don't focus at infinity because you will lose DOF. Focus about a third into the picture to get maximum DOF (at least I think this is correct to get the hyperfocal distance - someone correct me if I'm wrong please!!). Also, the lens you use isn't one of canon's sharpest. I used to own it, but have now got the EF 28-105mm f/3.5-f/4.5 USM which is my general perpose lens. I also have the EF 24mm prime lens, which is very sharp indeed and perfect for landscape shots.
I hope this has been of some help. If I've said stuff you already know, then maybe you can get some more advise off members who have more experience than me.

Thank you Sarah for the advice. I don't even think I know where I was focusing..probably as you mentioned..infinity. I hadn't thought about the 1/3 focus into the scene...hmmm..will certainly be trying this.

Really nice shot... also looked good in the thumbnail. I do agree about the sharpness - might be tough to do in a single shot, you're asking for a hugh DOF. Did you have the lens at its widest angle setting (28mm) so you'd have the greatest DOF?

Debbie, I was in LA last fall, got a couple of photos of the place, but nothing on this scale. This is real good. I think I'm in the group that says been there done that. Good job!
