Marília Ferraz   {K:-4496} 12/2/2003
Hi Rembrandt, love to see your work in here.
Peta, this deserves long comments, maybe a poem. I don't know. The way you are working with light is quite extraordinary, my friend.
How did you get to those tones? I have no idea.
Excellent in every way.
Hugs and lots of love,
Marília

Rawabi Al-Nuaimi   {K:15659} 12/2/2003
i love this shot!!! amazing tones and pose.. perfect!! added it to my fav :)

peta jones   {K:12615} 12/2/2003
Thank you all so much!

Marilia...you are so sweet, hugs to you too! I think people will think I'm trying to keep secrets by saying I'm not sure how I got the tones etc. I just go into photoshop and use it like a paintbox. I THINK it came to be with the textures and then using the layer filters in different opacities. I do try...mutiply, overlay or colour burn often. Though colour burn often is too intense so I'd lower the opacity quite a bit. No help am I? ;)

Antonio Trincone   {K:23167} 12/2/2003
wonderful light here, great, very very good

Gregory Fiedler   {K:15439} 12/2/2003
Peta, A most excellent portrait! Fabulous use of light, and great tones. Simply just super well done!

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 12/2/2003
Great colors and textures. It is fun to see how you treat this subject in such different ways. My only nit (wouldn't be critique if it there wasn't one, now would it?): the texture bleeding into the lamp and book. The light in the original image must already be very good. I like the details of his bracelet and watch, and how they work with the general feel of the image.

Dan Lightner   {K:12684} 12/2/2003
Slightly different from the last. But very nice image, I like it alot...Regards

Aykan OZENER   {K:5996} 12/2/2003
Dear Peta SUPERRR!

Massimo Di Maggio   {K:-55858} 12/2/2003
As teacher, I am very pleased with this title and with this photography. Just kidding, but I must say that you can give back very well the atmosphere of concentration, but also of magic, that there is during the reading of a book, also of a school book, because all that one does not know is a mystery. Bye Max

Katia Cutrone   {K:12940} 12/2/2003
I do agree with Massimo Di Maggio, there is magie in this pic, because there is magie in books.

Perfect work with just a lamp's light, great, great, great.

Hubert Mackiewicz   {K:655} 12/2/2003

Thank you all for your wonderful comments on this portrait of Kevin. He was a great model to work with, and I will credit him with the look and idea behind this image and the other I submitted earlier.

Max, I agree, reading is magic and has always been a love of mine which I've happily instilled in my own kids.

Steve Rosenbach   {K:8348} 12/7/2003
Another excellent portrait, Peta! Beautiful use of lighting, to give an overall dramatic look ... and wonderful attention to detail as well, such as watch and jewelry, highlights on the rims of the glasses, and the light coming through the corner of the page being turned. Peta, you could put together a book with the amazing portraits you've taken!

Best regards,
SteveR

david malcolmson   {K:4145} 12/7/2003
It never ceases to amaze me how simple lighting set-ups, as here, result in such interesting images. You know, Peta, that I have great respect for your talent so I hope you will not mind if I say here that I am a little thrown by one thing here - the placement of the lamp and the strange down-pointing bar don't look right, in my opinion, its proximity to the young man make it look like some kind of exotic headgear. For me this detracts from an otherwise great image. Best wishes. David.

Patricia Eifel   {K:5097} 12/7/2003
Hi Peta! Contratulations on well-deserved POTD. You have really developed a wonderful style with this. I'd love to see the original portrait as well... Patricia

Ray Roewert   {K:136} 12/7/2003
Excellent use of light! Great picture!

D De Vito   {K:644} 12/7/2003
I really like the rich, jeweled golds and bronzes in this composition. It encapsulates the symbolic historical implications contained in knowledge- or study. The light coming from above as a metaphor for 'illumination' is so subdued, yet very powerful. Very impressive-be proud of this one.

. .   {K:16329} 12/7/2003
Congrats!!

Kevin Thompson   {K:113} 12/7/2003

Ursula I Abresch   {K:6515} 12/11/2003
Another beautiful picture, Peta, I'd missed this one. I love your work with textures. The latest issue of PhotoLife has an article on texturing (overlaying textures).

We have changed plans (again!) about our move to BC. My husband is flying to our new place on January 1, he has to start working in January. I am staying behind in Ottawa with the children, so that our high schooler can finish the semester. We are then also flying out to BC at the end of January. This is all contingent on our selling the van, otherwise I'll have to drive it to BC with the kids at the end of January. Thanks for remembering! I am relly looking forward to the BC landscapes this coming year.

Take care,

Ursula

Dave M   {K:9043} 12/19/2003

Stephen R. Pellerine   {K:2247} 2/21/2004
I've been looking through your gallery, amazing work and wish I had the proper time to comment on all telling how great your work is, but this one catches me - and obviously hundreds of others. Nice Job.

Ivan Jimenez   {K:9098} 7/25/2004
Excellent work... judging by the number of comments in sepia works best.
Great angle, very introspective.
I wonder if the library people knew that you were clicking away though...
