Nice setting Chris. Wonder what kind of effect this would take on if you were taking this lower down, and bringing horixon into it. In other words
not making the pier the whole focal point of this scene.

Chris,

For some reason I am drawn to photos like this, they have perspective lines that will lead to a vanishing point. Maybe it has something to do with being married to an art teacher that emphasizes every year the perspective drawings and I have to listen to her lesson plans! I like the detail in the planks, I sure some will not like the lack of detail in the post, however I feel they "talk" to me and lead my eyes better this way. It seems to go well with the calmness of the water, but broken by the few rain drops. Hey man keep it up, I really enjoy your work!
Later myfriend,

Russ

THank you Russel And Les..I appreciate the comments and input. Les..i have a few with the shore line as you mentioned but with the expanse of lake the pier and the shore seemed to fight over focus too much and I wanted the pier to be main stage.

A great shot Chris! Perfectly composed. I too would not mind seeing an older couple sitting together on the right corner facing out. Still, I also like it just as is!

Beverly Gustafson   {K:3058} 11/1/2002
I love this kind of moody photo. Great one Chris.

very good.

Ian Crean   {K:14866} 11/28/2003
Nicely balanced with those dark shadows in the water left & right. Given the high contrast and the black of the posts I would like a slightly higher key just to lose the rest of the detail in the water at the top perhaps making it a little misty.
Effective use of (real) B&W, textures and lines.

very good b&w picture,
very good compostion, congrats!

Chris,

I would like to echo Ian's words regarding making the image a bit more high key, with the top part of the shot fading to white.

I love the symmetry you have achieved, and the great mood with the wetness, the raindrops on the water... it all fits together very nicely.
