Is it a chick or just a sparrow. Your timing has made it look like a chick just taking its first steps and flaps. Why not shoot higher ISO and hence push the DOF to get the whole bird in focus? (im guessing this wasn't a one off spur of the moment shot)

perfect timing and a very sweet result! with a different background and a bit more sharpness this image would be perfect,in my opinion.
where was your 70-200 that moment,Dan?

You've got quite an impressive portfolio here, Dan. Very dynamic and vivid images... Can't wait to see some of that natural resource development stuff; I would like to see some heavy industry.... It fascinates me too. I'm amaised at your ability to capture the exact right moment. Impressive work! I have to agree with your statement of using a maximal DOF. It can add a lot of dynamism (or mood) to a photo. I chose this particular photo, because the centered image, almost symmetric, appeals to me. I've aimed my lens at this bird so many times....

Thanks for your comment; I'm glad to learn you approve of my choice.
Cheers,

Hugo
