Very interesting crop... I think I like the idea. A little more detail in the very darkest shadow of the flower on the right might help to emphasize the curve of the flower a tad bit more.

As far as subtelty of shading - much of what the final print id, is not going to be apparent in a jpeg. In fact, without a preview of the uploaded image, it often turns out differently than how i see it in Photoshop and again differently in other programs. As an 8X10 print the detail in the dark are is much more apparent.
