About Taken last weekend on a visit to a local beach. I love the type of grass you get on sand dunes, and thought it look good against the November blue sky. (I've uploaded a black and white conversion also - which is best?)

well, I havent seen the BW one yet, but I vote for this one anyway - the colours are what makes it (good, that is!). Blue sky in Wales? in November? wow!

Steve Wise   {K:215} 11/20/2002
the grass looks REALLY neat against the november sky! for that reason i prefer the color over the b/w. this is very well seen, i think. don't you just love beach scenes? I'm a beach lover but am land-locked 600 miles inland.

Sarah - I looked at both this and the b&w version, think I like this colour one better. To my (untrained) eye the black sky looks too black? Love the composition, especially the l..ong grass.

Christian Gennert   {K:790} 11/20/2002
This is a nice shot! The grass is striving for the sky, but can never reach it...

Eric Goldwasser   {K:4294} 11/20/2002
COLOR! All the way!

I looked at both versions... the B&W does have awesome textures.. but I love the colors. It's more calming, flows better. In the B&W, the grass look so harsh.
Color for me :)

The colour-version is definitely the best. Having just two elements in a photo, and a composition that is quite simple and static, you'll need a third element to keep the viewers interest for long. Colour is this third element here, and together this image evokes a feeling of air, freedom and, despite the calendar, well, summer....
Lovely!

"G!" Very nice

Another vote for the color version. Love the colors, the composition, and the simplicity.

Hey. I like it! It made an impact. I have seen similar types of scenes in pics lately, but something about yours stands out and hits me in the face...made me stop and just gaze into it. For one, I like the grass in front blowing slightly. I get a sense of movement, really in the whole thing. I also like how the grass gets equal showing as the sky. Another thing is...I like the simple color scheme and shapes here. When I first looked at it, it reminded me of western Montana...

(oops, i meant EASTern montana)

If the grass were sharp, this would be my favorite shot among your last 20 uploads. regards.

Great photo - I love landscapes captured as you feel them. This to me gives a great sense of tucking your head away in the dunes on a winter day out of the wind but getting the glowing warmth these days can often provide. Colour is better over B&W - the strong blue as mentioned earlier adds the 3rd element to this composition.

Hi Sarah, Just playing catch up on your portfolio. I like both versions, but I am squarely behind the colour version on this one. That so many people like both is a testament to what a great photo it is. Pete Turner, a photographer famous for his strong use of colour, once said that a great colour photo will often work just as well in black and white. This is a good example of that principle. Cheers.
