About Photography was second choice on this day. I was actually fishing just to the right of the picture, when these magnificent wave explosions kept grabbing my attention. Finally after seeing enough of these, I dropped the pole, pulled out the camera, and captured to me what is still one of the most beautiful combinations in all Hawaii...Majestic mountains vs. powerful waves. While this was taken a few years ago, it is still a great seller even now. I just wanted to add it to my Usefilm portfolio. Your comments are always appreciated.

Dificil capturar las olas en su mejor momento y tu lo has logrado , no se si los colores son reales o trabajados con PS , de la manera que fuera son fantasticos . Genial.

How I love this monochromatic change from your usual, beautifully saturated scapes... It so emphasises the drama of form and light and shadow, with a mystical, magical feeling. Stunning tones and perfect composition... You are still rockin', Vincent, and this is a fantastic addition to your portfolio. I can see why it is such a great seller. In fact, I can see it hanging on my wall, for sure... ;-))) Maika'i !!!!

Same here, I can see why it is a seller, I also love the image... the composition is great, the timing of the shutter is very good, and I love the effect of the fading mountains.

Send me an address GP. IT will be on your wall shortly! Thanks for your thoughtful comment. Same to all above. Aloha!

I love the dynamism of the wave in this photo and how it looks like a giant fan . . . or a tail! What makes the wave doubly interesting is how you can't really see the rocks it's breaking against, so it almost looks like a spontaneous moment when the water just decided to take on a different form. Very cool . . .

The depth created by the three tones of the mountains is great. I like the inclusion of the black rocks in the foreground for some added contrast. This photo seems quite hazy (in a good way!) which surprises me because I see you used a polarizer. Do you know how you managed to capture such a great looking smokey sky?

Vincent K. Tylor   {K:8890} 1/29/2004
Nice comment Becky. The "smokey sky" as you called it and asked about, is actually mist from the large ocean swell that caused these wave explosions. Large swells occur often enough on the Northshore of all the Hawaiian islands during the Winter. Sometimes it is so big and the water so rough that you literally cannot even see the mountains behind the waves. Also the big wave captured here was caused by to waves crossing each other at the same time, rather than one wave breaking on a rock. Thanks for the visit...as always.

Wow - I can't even fathom such a thing! Thanks for the 'splanation. :)

I love the fan like explosion to the wave and the depth of colors from the mountain peaks. The gradation of color from dark to lighter in the background cliff peak adds depth and beauty to this stunning photo. I too like this slightly "different" look from the others in your portfolio. As always, a fan!!! I guess I should have just read beckys' comment and said ditto, since i now realize I observed the same thing. Oh well...ditto!!!

Vincent, My hubby and I have been priveleged to visit Hawaii twice. What a wonderful paradise. Every time I view one of your images, I remember the warm sun and the beautiful water. This is a wonderful shot. Good catch - even if you couldn't fry it for dinner. -- Debby
