About Mike Marcotte has been posting better images of the MidWest with the same evocation lately. I thought I'd share a sign of appreciation shot in Saint-Jean-de-Matha, Québec.

The starkness of this is chilling. Fabulous composure. This is going in my faves.
C'est bon!

Très belle composition, tout est là. Image apaisante, très jolie....

Neil Dolman   {K:26883} 2/8/2004
I like this a lot, i think it follows the KISS principle very well (keep it simple, stupid). I love the empty space between the tree and the barn. The horses add a touch of interest - very nice. Regards Neil

Alberto Agnoletti   {K:12805} 2/8/2004
Excellent composition!!
Best regards, Alberto

Tomo Radovanovic   {K:12788} 2/8/2004
beautiful

Matej Maceas   {K:24381} 2/8/2004
Christian, I like this. I like the wintery high contrast, as well as the extreme placement of the tree and the stable. I find the idea to "crop" the building daring, but with a good result. Good job.

Don Loseke   {K:32503} 2/8/2004
This so nice, simple and yet it conveys a mood of desolation. Great work. Bye, Don.

Mike Marcotte   {K:3948} 2/8/2004
Thanks for this Christian, this is a beautiful scene. I found several sites for Saint-Jean-de Matha. Looks like a great place to spend a few days, summer or winter. I have a favor to ask of you mon ami. I have an old Montreal newspaper [1920] with a front page article concerning one of my ancestors. If you can give me a hand with this, my E-Mail address is MJBJ17@prodigy.net. Thanks

Christian Barrette   {K:21125} 2/8/2004
Sure Mike !
I've sent a message but it bounced back.

mjbj17@prodigy.net> This is it. I've had a little trouble with this e-mail today

Audrey Reid   {K:5872} 2/10/2004
Hello there,
This is the sort of composition that I really like, clean and simple but eye catching. But.....there is always a but from me isn't there!! In an otherwise perfect world, I would like to have seen the barn complete in the picture, guess that means taking a step or two back.
Also, I see another shot here - if you crop the barn out, you have a lone tree in a pure white world :)

al shaikh   {K:15779} 2/13/2004
My favorite image of yours.

Christian Barrette   {K:21125} 2/13/2004
Well, thank you Altaf ! I feel honoured.

Should the barn on the right have been not cropped ? For that, I would have needed a wider angle lens than the stock one available on the CP5700 - not back up, because this was on a steep hill, so stepping back would have made the barn hidden from below. Any way, I figured that as it was, it created a less static composition than one with two well fixed elements and an empty space in the middle.
I agree Audrey that the tree alone, set on the left, would make a fine compositon.

Pablo    {K:5381} 2/13/2004
I love this picture. The composition is superb, and also the overall tonality. The tree alone would have been great too, but I think the photo is fine the way it is. I like the the barn and the horses there. Excellent image. Well done.

Regards.

Simplicity at it's best! And I bet Mike is a happy man... If these are his roots... probably he developed strong "branches"...

Hi, Christian. Haven't heard from you for a while. Hope everything is fine with you and your family. Has Christoph told you that he finished studies? His title is now "Diplomingenieur". What a relief for all of us. Now he's looking for a job and he has already several offers.

Kind regards, Markus
