About The intensity of her look is what I like about this shot, so I tried to emphasize it by using mainly the blue channel for b/w conversion (+ darkening from the green layer). Your comments are always appreciated.

Very nice portrait. Excellent tonal range. Nice shot

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 2/9/2004
This is the original shot. Golden hour light and the background disqualified the red channel from the b/w conversion. That and the blue eyes...

M. Saiago   {K:25} 2/9/2004
sim, existe intensidade...penso que o olhar de predador da criança contrasta com a sua face inocente o que resulta numa foto muito intensa!parabéns

Tomo Radovanovic   {K:12788} 2/9/2004

I'm kind of torn . . . while I think in the black and white you were able to pull out better details in the face, lose the overwhelming yellowness and make the feeling a bit less benign than the colour version, I really like the girl's blue eyes! I feel they are much more intense in the colour photo, but perhaps it's because they look quite steely amidst all those warm tones. Perhaps if you partially desaturated the original, or just toned it so the yellow isn't quite so overwhelming, you could strike a balance between the two.

Not to say the black and white isn't intense already. It is! It's just a shame to lose that attention-grabbing colour in the eye.

Roberto Arcari Farinetti   {K:178244} 2/9/2004
a strong intensity in this eyes.. a wonderful child ..and your masterly capaciti of shot!!!
perfect capture..
bye bye roby

Paolo De Maio   {K:34166} 2/9/2004
Your final result are really impressive Stefan.
Still I would tried to give a light Unsharp mask to obtain more details on her eyes so deep....
I like it so much without my suggestions too obviously ...It's only my point of view..
Paolo

She's incredibly beautiful Stefan, and so is your capture of her. Compliments... she's so damned cute :)

MaryBell    {K:32791} 2/10/2004
Stefan,

I like this very much - good crop at the bottom giving us the full v of her neckline is just right - I just wish we didn't have to see the trademark emblem on her hood (personal problem, I imagine as I hate trademarks...)

I personally prefer the tradional black and white feel and look of this image...

Mary

A Brito   {K:10739} 2/10/2004
beautiful !!!

peta jones   {K:12612} 2/10/2004
Excellent Stefan, indeed intense, love the naturalness of this. Her eyes are wonderful.

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 2/10/2004
Thanks all for the helpful comments!

Marcos - color?

Paolo - I did apply an unsharp mask to this and I was afraid I had already overdone it...

Mary - I know what you mean with the prominent trademark, this is simply the full frame of the shot but it could do with a crop up there. I do wonder what you mean by the "traditional b/w" however... This b/w as opposed to the color version, or another form of b/w compared to this?

M. Saiago & Becky - I believe you see what I thought of as bit of menace her.

miguel marchand2   {K:200} 2/10/2004

Stefan,

Saw your comment on my shot so had to cheek out your portfolio. I'd have to mirror your comment on my shot for 'intensity', a truly cool pic.

Tim Bronkhorst   {K:9391} 3/18/2004
What a strong shot. The portrait and the girl stand like an house. Her eyes overwhelm the viewer, her hair looks like she fought whit a bear. Nice reflection of walking through the rain.
Straight to my favorites.
Greets Tim.

Susan Cropper   {K:2166} 6/9/2004
You are very talented. I am amazed at the beautiful shots in your portfolio. Your portraits are my favorite.

Antonia BauerleinSehnert   {K:30030} 5/10/2005
She does have a very intense look, and the image comes off very nicely with the dark tones. Boy, there sure is a resemblance as you say! It's a little like the trees that are up on the featured critique at the moment. Your technique using mainly the blue channel is interesting, as I will selectively focus on one of the channels at times -- the red can come off like an IR filter. I like the contrast in this one very much, and this is a strong portrait that portrays a mood/moment not often seen in portraits.
