About I think my last 5 rolls of film or so have provided me with some painful, yet valuable lessons. This time I learned about the difficulties inherent in shooting with a teleconverter in low light levels. It was tough trying to compose this shot as the petals were so randomly twisted and I was desperately trying to maneuver my tripod so I wouldn't mangle *too* many other flowers. So yes, it would have been nice to get the top of that one petal in frame and a greater DOF, but other than that, what do you think? PS: PS work - my scanner really beat the heck out of this photo, so I tried to rectify via channel mixing, level adjusting and colour balancing. I had a mind-numbingly bright red version for awhile, but then chose to darken it a bit.

I love the way my eyes are on a rollercoaster here... swirling from one petal to the other. I think that compositionally this is fantastic (wish I had seen it!) and the colour combo really adds power. The darkness of the stamen helps to ground the eye as well, when you've had enough swirling!
The reds seem really heavy to me, though, almost a matte-finish, which opposes the light, airy feeling of this image.
Truly a fantasically unique floral!

exellent shot, beautiful tones, it's really like fire...
As for DOF, well I own some teleconverter, extensions tubes and other 'adaptors' and your problems are the same as mine...

I think the bit of stamen and petal protruding through and out of the yellow heart make a good resting place for the eye - saving us from total overload. Good title. I would perhaps crop from the left and remove some of the dead space there...

It is a nice little fire you found, or maybe blaze is a better word. Shallow DOF is always an issue but here it is not a detraction despite the fact that there are both foreground and background elements well out of the plane of focus. Maybe it is because the colors are such strong players?

I like this Becky. I was just going through pages glancing at thumbnails and this caught my eye. I hadn't even read title when I thought it looked like a fire. I like the composition and it makes for a good abstract as well........Randy

Lovely extreme closeup, I like those never ending variations on the abstract power of nature in close ups. Another great example. Best regards Jorg
