hugo, great textures!! the colors, esp. the yellow patterns on the vault roof are magnificent. i like your use of dof. the writing is clear and, if i spoke/read arabic, legible. it's nice to have such cooperative subject that provides such contrast (in colors, tones, lighting, and texture). excellent shot.

Great angle and perspective, I like how you braed the camera to the pillar and showed how these blue lines part. Colors are beautiful, very well captured, orange and blue are a great combonation.

Wow, dit is een hele onverwachte foto. Heel heel mooie gevonden, apparte "view" krijg je hier. De kleuren zijn heel mooi en de licthval op de blauwe cirkeltjes is prachtig. Ik heb hier verder niet veel op zeggen, de foto spreekt voor zich, gewoon top werk!

This shot is by far the most impressive shot of the three. The perspective and angle of the column is superb. I particularly like the fact that it's not symmetrical, sure the lines hit the same marks, but its way heavier on the right hand side. That make the photo for me. Concrats.

Hugo, the comp and DOF and everything about this one is perfect - I like it very, very, well!! An odd note that has little to do with the photo but more about interpretation - for some reason it looks like an old phone cord to me! Do you remember how the earpiece/mouthpiece of the phone was attached to the phone by a stretchy spiral cord? This reminds me of that!! ;)

Hugo, this image is really stunning. The perspective is absolutely great. original and well chosen. The colours are gorgeous. Very nice patterns on the wall and volt, interesting and inspiring architecture superbely and cleverly captured. What I like most of all here is the composition, which could probably have been perfectly symetric. I'm not sure if it was intentional or not, but the fact that the symetry is only "close" to perfection makes this image so real, beautiful, lively and very appealing.

Deze foto is bijzonder krachtig, onderandere door de symetrische opzet, maar ook door de perfecte kleuren. Dat je een kaartje als inspiratie bron gebruikt moet niet erg zijn, waar zou usefilm anders voor moeten dienen?
Het geheel is een beetje dof en een echt scherp punt kan ik niet ontdekken, misschien is dit de bedoeling geweest.

Oh, the cropping and composition in this shot are stunningly on, Hugo. The bright blue curves going just to frames' edge at bottom, and then snaking out, and branching to left and right corners. Staring at it almost creates a figure/ground disorientation, where you begin to doubt if you're looking up or down.

I very much like the shot. Perhaps you'd like hear some philosophy about it. The origins of architechture of ceilings like this, go back to years before the emergence of Islam and the arab invasion. They are a very like simulation of the world. The ground is usually covered with stones or carpet with eathly colors of green, bege, or red, and the ceiling is a dome with blue colours, like the ancient Iranian mythology's suggest, there's a metaphor in our language: The dome of the sky. The reason is that ancient Iran was very much interested in astrology and have found spheral patterns in the sky. Some say the architechture show the fact that Islam counts for both the spritual(blue dome of the sky) and the physical aspects of life. But there are archeologists who believe since this architecture existed before Islam for "Atashkadeh"s (meaning the place to keep the holy fire) of pre-Islam religion, "Zartoshti", in the age of "Sasani"s which ended with the invasion of Arabs. Some say it even dates before that, and it's a cause of "zorvanism". Who knows! What's important is that people of Iran, cared for both the sky and the earth. And in some of its ancient religions, The earth was counted more holy as the sky, and after that the sun became the origin of all good. To the extent that I know, this architechture is definitly Iranian and architechtural domes didn't exist in arab cultures before Iranians introduced them. Your photo follows the very same pattern the architecture was intented to present the viewer with. And upwards look from the ground to see the blue dome of the sky. Very intelligent. definitly a 7.

Hi Ida, Thank you very much for that elaborate description. Very interesting. Is the pre-islamic religion you mention the Zoroatrian culture, with its temples of silence and the fire temples? We saw various momentums (both historically as well as (fairly) recent in Yazd, but also in Persepolis. Very intriguing country. I found Iran Fascinating!

Yes the preislamic architecture goes back to the SASANI era, when Islam didn't even exist in arabia. The fire temples are called "aatash-kadeh"s and are very common in almost every historic city. thanks for reading the whole paragraph by the way !;)

Hi Ida, Of course I read the entire paragraph! I found it very meaningful and interesting.... I've been to Chak Chak outside Yazd, where the guy / groundskeeper showed us the Fire temple, and explained alot about the Pre-Islamic religion. With the three virtues, represented by the three rows of feathers in the wings, and the three dangers in the tail. Very intriguing to see signs of the Zoroastrian religion throughout Iran....

And to give an end to my nonstop threads!, I've got to add that most of the historic mosques you can find around Iran are build on the ruins of fire temples which were ruined by Muslims. The irony of religions ruining each others signs, is very common in countries were folowers of Ibrahimi religions (Jews, Christans and Mulsims) intersect with folowers of ancient ones, especialy the Mitraists(Iranian and Indian religions like Zoroastrian) and Bhudists, the best examples of this saying are the examples of Iran and India. Actually the situation is still tense in India. You see countries with more ancient cultures, and more civilan and creative ancestors usually face more problems around here. Most of this countries' cultures are confused, and are combinations of contrasts. Well the political problems add on a lot to that externally, but internal conflicts happend a lot. Iraq is another good example to follow. WOW! I'm such a "Bavarde" like frenchs say! I talk too much!
