About The roofs of the old (farm)houses in Drenthe are made of reed. Well not only the old ones, they still use it today.

Another interesting work on design and texture. Well done, if I may, I think that if everything coudl have been in focus, it would have been even better.
I guess using reeds to make roof provided very efficient natural isolation as the reef hold air inside them, they are probably very effective for that. At the same time, they provide also a way out for water.
