They are indeed the hope of the country. Unfortunately there will always be corrupt politicians that will make sure this hope is squashed....
There is so much life in those eyes.

Hugo de Wolf   {K:185017} 3/9/2004
Hi Roy, Always enjoy your travel photos...:) This one looks just perfect to me, a beautiful balanced composition, a natural, and just slightly forced pose (or so it seems; the pose is very fitting to boys that age, I think..., but nonetheless "posed") and an outstanding contrast and tonal range. I'm always impressed by the virtually grainless T-Max 100 compared to the 400. Great title; hopes everything remains stable in that area of Africa.... Taking a closer look, I find it very interesting that the older looking boy's look is more uncertain and posesses more selfawareness than the look of the boy on the left. The same applies to the body language. That makes the photo very intriguing, and also adds the subtlety to the title. Impressive shot!

Thanks for your comments. How long have you been using the F100? I've only recently bought mine, and already enjoying its weight, its capabilities and its output. Still struggling with the EV values now and then. Only used more than 2 stops (under) for multiple exposure. Just wondering. Do you use the EV dial often and do you also change the EV default for a specific film or filter?

Cheers,

Hugo

Roy,
These are two absolutely beautiful boys with lovely eyes and an amazing expression on their faces. I really love this one. Not only is the quality really outstanding, but the feel and mood is great. Looking at your photos alwyas stir my emotion either because they are so beautiful or because the give me all kinds of feelings. I partly agree with other opinions, I can see amazement and hope in the eyes of the two boys but... no fear.
Thanks for sharing
Regards - Emgy

John Hatziemmanouil   {K:40580} 3/13/2004
Also on this one the comment could be the same. I also must add the quality of the photo. Generaly the pixels looks to have good soft scale each other and makes the texture looks pretty good and soft. Bye!

Natalie Papadopoulos   {K:5247} 3/13/2004
brilliant work Roy. they are captured perfectly - the eye contact is like a window into their world.

Ian Crean   {K:14866} 3/17/2004
Roy, a wonderful study with so much going on behind the eyes. The older boy has the bearing of a young man and the younger one conveys more innocence.
The technical qualities are perfect and you really bring out the beauty of the skin tones.
Hope is a complicated emotion in this part of the world and seeing these guys with so much life in them it makes me angry to think of the struggle they might have just to survive and keep their dignity. Not so far away from Zim they could easily become child soldiers. I was in Zim around '89 and again in '99 and the changes were quite stark. Since then of course it's only getting worse.
I hope for these boys and that's the power of your photography.
Ian
