About No, I did not increase the exposure here.... it was a high waterfall ( named Figueira, in Brotas, São Paulo), and an overcasted day... too dangerous to look for a place to stand a tripod or catch the whole fall...then, I?ve tried this shot.
That guy seems to be wondering about it... don?t you agree?

All comments will be appreciated.

Hi Carmen, I like the climber in the composition, he adds a great sense of the magnetude and size of the scene. I think he's totally absorbed by what he's doing, and to desperately busy not to slip to notice you....;o) I think you made a good choice capturing this part of the waterfall, as it holds already quite alot of information. The contrast are excellent, very dynamic. Even with 1/160' the motion blur in the water provides a nice soft touch, and the colours are stunning. Great shot, I like it alot.

Thanks for your comments, Carmen, I appreciate them alot....

Cheers,

Hugo

Lex Bronkhorst   {K:14145} 3/15/2004
You caught a wonderfull shot here, the waterfall looks great and i like the men hanging over there! I agree with you, he is looking, but turning back is no option there, he got to go.. Maybe he is looking where to put his feeds, maybe it was a slippy wall. The only thing i don't like is the colour of the water, nasty brown water, but that has nothing to do with the picture, and maybe it is good, for a bit drama! I think the waterfall looks very nice a bit blurry! My compliments!
Greets, Lex..

Murat Tanriover   {K:8387} 3/15/2004
At the last moment I realized there was a guy over on the left upper corner, of course your explanation also helped. He looks like he is too busy to notice you, and tries to be careful not to slip down. Great contrast. Very vivid.
Love it.

Superb photo Carmem - you can see how acidic the water is from the peat !

Graham Mulrooney   {K:16868} 3/15/2004
A beautiful landscape with lovely colours and a perfectly exposed waterfall. The climber adds another dimension and to me he looks like he's taken on too much. Did he make it?
Best regards,
Graham.

Steven H   {K:7142} 3/15/2004
A wonderful moment of tension and excitement . . . the color and scenery all added benefits. Thanks for your note on mine . . . I started out planning to be a biologist, as you are, but sidetracked by the world of words, but still have a love for the small and beautiful world brought alive with the macro view of life.

Kristina Kohut   {K:49990} 3/15/2004
Lovely colours and such nice composition! Very special mood and feeling! Really beautiful, but I have to confess I started to laugh when I saw the man. But that's more because of my weird humour than the photo. It was just that this old song "It's raining men" popped up in my head... ;-))

Lorinda Millar   {K:2580} 3/16/2004
A beautiful shot! I was about to comment on the great colours and composition and then I noticed the climber! Great!

Neil Dolman   {K:26883} 3/18/2004
Hi Carmem, i just looked at your last two photos! I prefer this one, although the other one is also very nice and looks like a painting. At first i didn't see the climber in the picture, i was just fascinated with the waterfall. Nice exposure too! Well done.
Thanks for your comment on "Man Made 2", i like the reference to steel flowers, do you think i should have posted it under "florals" :-) Just Joking! Greetings from Swizterland, Neil

Jorge Vasconcelos   {K:33746} 3/18/2004

Roger Williams   {K:84100} 5/3/2004
The exposure is fine. Indeed the whole picture is amazing... The force of the waterfall is vividly captured, the man not only sets the scale of the scene but also involves us--we can't help being a little concerned for him. And the strange reddish colour of the water and the rocks. Perhaps there is a lot of iron in the water? Anyway, it makes a lovely contrast with the splash of green. Beautiful!

Luther Chong   {K:3585} 5/8/2004
Very creative use of the vivid landscape to document the rock climber.

This photo belongs on the cover of a magazine.

Well done

Kevin H   {K:22502} 6/2/2004
I think the angle at which you took is just great as you get more details. You also got great colors and excellent lighting. Keep up the good work.

Dave Arnold   {K:55672} 6/23/2004
Awesome long exposure with great motion and coloring. I thought this was a small water fall with small rocks at first, then I noticed the climber. Wow, what a huge waterfall. Lucky you to be able to find scenes like this. Good job at capturing and sharing it!

Dave
