best of the series Phil....glad we had the opportunity to review this in the live session.....same thoughts as last night crop a bit off the left for a better balance......many differing opinions on this in live but all agree a compelling image.....

I loved this last night, and I love it now..including the footprints.

Very nice series Phil.

This is purty. :) Exposed on the paper JUST enough to give the sand some detail, but still remain surprisingly white. I like the composition as is...I always like things off center. The strong shadows add a dramatic amount of depth to the image, even though they're going sideways and not into or out of the image. I am very impressed with this image. Keep 'em coming! :)

I totally LOVE it! Great subject and handling of it.

cool phil...sharp spikes and just as sharp shadows go good with flowing shadows of flowing sand

Pure simplicity.
This is as wonderful as Usefilm, Phillip!
I am so impressed with the collective artistry of this community that I donated today!
WooHoo!

This is a great image, Phillip. Even if I wasn't a native New Mexican, this shot would be easy to appreciate. Excellent tones and great composition.

By the way, my father, Donan Estill has talked of a Phillip Cohen he was good friends with in grad school at NMSU, you wouldn't happen to be the same Phillip, would you? (wouldn't that be wierd...)

Phillip Cohen   {K:9538} 7/11/2006
Thanks Morgan. That picture was actually shot on color film and I printed it in the darkroom on black and white paper. To look at the original color image you would have not given it a second thought. Black and white really makes this picture come to life.

No that must be another Phillip Cohen. I have only been to New Mexico once and the trip where I took these images was it. I was out there in the early 90s for a few weeks to teach a class at the NASA base at White Sands. (I really was a rocket scientist) ;=)

Thanks for the good words, I have a whole series of these images from White Sands, will have to find the scanner and post some more.

Phil

I started thinking about it and you're right - you're not that guy, but then again, you sound like you know that. Looking forward to seeing more shots of White Sands. Hope you get to come back and take some more shots of some other places in NM.

-Morgan
