About At the Kawagoe Festival the old medieval armour is brought out and men dress up as warriors. Some of them even possess muskets--and fire them! They look pretty fearsome to me. Although sometimes you spot wristwatches and eyeglasses that make them a little less credible! That's not a swastika, by the way, it's a Buddhist symbol, here reversed to look like a swastika because we're looking at the back of the flag.

Nice 'people shot', full of interest and the tonal quality is as usual superb. I would have thought there would be some opportunity for some close up 'portraite' style shots here too.

No, no! Keith. They were FAR too fierce for close-up portraits. They didn't seem to mind group shots, but looked very unhappy if I got close, as I would have to do with my very wide-angle lenses. This is an argument for a telephoto lens, of course! My friend Mr. Matsukawa will be uploading some very good ones (we went together). You should look at his photos to see a different "take" of Japan! Search for Koichi Matsukawa.

Old Samurai type Armour is extremely intricate. It must take ages to put on. Well Caught Roger

Interesting photo, Roger. The Swastika I knew about so it does not upset me. The light was harsh creating the extreme contrasts, the B&W version is a good choice in thecase of trying to achive authenthicy look. I left a comment at my photo for you. Regards, Rob.

Enjoy    {K:16125} 4/4/2004
Again..most informative...good use of b/w as well...makes for a more old world look...well done... =)) Just so you know...in Idaho we have a huge population of white aryan racist that use the swastika as a symbol... shows how truely ignorant they are.... but Idaho is full of racisim and hatred.... sad to say in this day and age but oh so true.

Cool shot Roger! I would have cloned out the TV antenna though.

looks good in BW rog and I agree your range of tones are better than the one I sent up. I always seem a bit heavy with the darks...maybe this is a little too sharp on the edges..I think I would of tried the contrast sharpening or your compression is too much. Anyhow I think it looks good and the subject is appealing...rog

Thanks for checking this one out. It's one of my own favourites... so I'm glad you like it.

I have been in Japan for over 38 years! (I am thinking of settling down permanently. [GRIN])
