About Was in Poipu, Kauai buying a truck for my son, when I ended up having a few hours to wait. I had always wanted to shoot images at this place, but never got around to it. I was trying to compose this at an angle that would make the colors stand out when this girl walked out of the water and into my viewfinder. The obvious question for me is does she go?? I told her about these images (approx 12) sent her a big J-peg and now have a model release. I also have several others from different vantage points as well without any people. I took about six rolls here, all hand held including one that fell into the salt water as I was taking it out of the camera (believe it or not it was totally fine) Oh yes (for those tired of Winter) this was taken last Summer when the sand must have been 120 degrees...and the water about... 82. Your comments and opinions are always appreciated.

AW MAN! ...

The girl has got to go ... !!! IMMPO, (In My Most Professional Opinion), the image would have been even greater without her and then you could have changed the title also to "PARADISE BEACH" ... Yes/No?

But of course you ran more frames before this 'Mermaid with two legs and fins' appeared from Poipu's fine waters ... RIGHT?

Mahalo for sharing 'Braddah' ...

~ Sunset Man ~

P.S. If she would have been Asian or at least Polynesian ... Ha!Ha! ... I probably would have given you a 6.5, but you got a 6 instead of a 7 ... Capiche!

Hello Vincent, good strong composition with model lifting the interest, the colour of the sky is a bit too saturated for my personal taste, but very nive all the same. Regards Micky.

Wonderful and chance capture. Great composition. The colors of the sky is too saturated and its even coloring the clouds blue !. Apart from that its a great image. well done.

As beautiful as this would be without the girl, I think her enthusiam and the fact that she has flippers in her hand really add to this shot. It's a nice sense of scale and freedom to see one person on this gorgeous stretch of beach.

Of course, excellent colour, composition and detail. Love those rocks in the foreground!

Becky V   {K:9681} 4/23/2004
To include or not to include . . . I definitely think she should be there. I think she amplifies the feeling of motion in the water (it looks as though she's continuing the forward movement of the waves) and I really like the idea that she's stepping onto what appears to be a completely empty beach. There are no footprints or blankets or clothes; it looks like she originated from the sea. The issue for me is whether you should have moved closer to the girl. On the one hand, getting closer means capturing a specific expression (from this distance, I can't tell from her body language how exactly she's relating to the beach), but on the other hand, this angle puts more emphasis on landscape and really makes it seem larger than life as the beach dwarfs the girl.

Just some random thoughts. Bottom line: I likes it!

Stunning colors, great landscape.

Jim Goldstein   {K:21230} 7/28/2004
Fantastic shot! I'd rather see her physically stepping out of the water with more room for her to run into the frame. Fantastic color, DOF and sharpness.

Ilona Krijgsman   {K:10459} 7/31/2004
wow I can almost feel the wind and hear the sea sounds......fantastic sharp shot.....

Vincent K. Tylor   {K:8812} 8/2/2004
I have one with her just as she is stepping out of the water. Will edit and post another day. I initially chose this one because of the clearly recognizable fins. It adds another element to this scene in my opinion. Thanks for ALL of your thoughts on this image. It is now officially in our print line. Lets see how she sells. Aloha.
