About This is the Kawagoe Festival again. Seeing 50 or a 100 middle-aged women in identical kimonos swaying and waving their hands to the energetic drumming of a girl of about ten was quite something. Isn't she cute?

The last couple of months I am traveling through Japan at a vary low rate. Very nice DOF and of course colurs. I like the perspective in the scene, regards, Rob.

Enjoy    {K:16125} 4/5/2004
darling..well done... why is it all woman that are "aged" that are doing the dancing?

Chris Spracklen   {K:32552} 4/5/2004
The girl's certainly a cutie, Roger, but none of the ladies look terribly happy with life!!
Kind regards, Chris

Roger - I like the whole series but this one is the best. I am a bit puzzeled. The point seems to be a highly traditional event and very conformist what with identicle kimonos and all. So why does the drummer girl get away with westerns style shorts? Nice composition as will with this one

Roger Williams   {K:84106} 4/5/2004
Ah you cultural chauvinist, you. Those are traditional JAPANESE shorts, too. We don't have a monopoly of them. Actually they used to be confined strictly to wear by men, and few adult women would wear them even now, but girls of her age can get away with it. Glad you liked the picture.

John Bohner   {K:8327} 4/6/2004
I WAS going to mention her gender but IMHO its better to be thought a Cultural chauvanist than a "sexist pig". I sit corrected. Shoot on sir. - JB

The power of youth, swaying the elderly masses! Very symbolic work. (The drummer girl is cute, isn't she?)

Rui Leitão   {K:6321} 4/6/2004
I would like to bee there to ear the music and see the festival. I have seen a festival of japanese drums in Portugal and I will remember it all my life!

Rui Leitão   {K:6321} 4/6/2004
Magnificent.
Best regards Roger!

Keith Naylor   {K:13064} 4/6/2004
Haha, they are obviously enjoying the dance - not a single one of them is smiling ;-)

Nice image
